Colorado eyes playoff berth

The Colorado Avalanche are on the verge of securing a spot in Western Conference playoffs.

The Avalanche will clinch a playoff spot with a win over the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday. The club also can get in with a regulation loss by Nashville on Tuesday or overtime losses by both teams.

Colorado had a three-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 loss to Minnesota on Saturday. The Avalanche, who are in sixth in the West with 91 points, may be without Peter Forsberg in this one.

Forsberg, who had three assists in a 6-3 win over Vancouver on Wednesday, is day-to-day with groin injury.

Vancouver, trying to hold down the eighth spot in the West, got two goals from 19-year-veteran Trevor Linden in a 6-2 victory over Calgary on Sunday.
